Other Versions | Resident EvilThrough the years since the original release of Resident Evil back in '96 on the PlayStation, there have been a couple of other versions and variations of the game. Regional DifferencesOooh those lucky Japanese - they got the full uncut FMV intro which showed the viewer more gore, violence and Kenneth's head rolling onto the floor. What do we over here in Europe get? An editied version which removes much of the gore that's what - gameplay elements were identical in every other respect though throughout all regions. The Directors CutCompiled during the time before the release of Resident Evil 2, the Directors Cut of the original game promised us more gore, more violence and more survival horror. This basically meant that the original FMV sequences from the Japanese version would be included... after a teensy mistake though over at Capcom HQ, it panned out that these FMV's were actually omitted though, and we were left with the same ones as before. Ooops! Still, an interesting preview of Resident Evil 2 was on the disc, which for hardcore fans made it all worthwhile. Resident Evil: Deadly SilenceYou may be wondering why this version isn't given it's own dedicated area. The simple answer is that it is really a port of the Original PlayStation classic. Yes, Rebirth mode offers an interesting twist- the addition of new puzzles and scenarios which use the touchscreen etc. but in essence the game is near identical- the graphics haven't even been upped. This is why Resident Evil DS has been chucked in here... it is technically just another version of the original game, like Directors Cut before it. Interesting sidenotes on this version are that you can actually play in Multiplayer. Sadly, you don't play the main game, but rather help or compete in clearing rooms of the undead... think of it as a portable Mercenaries of sorts- still good fun, and other characters were available for unlock by completing the main game. My Resident Evil: Deadly Silence speed run!
Yes, it is here folks! This may not be a remarkable time for many of you, but I personally am proud of this speed run of Resi DS. If you are struggling to see the picture (I tried to sharpen it a bit) my time is: 01:37:29 and I saved the game 3 times... I don't know why though as I never actually died... ah well. If you can do better let me know in the forums! Quick Links: Story | Review | Images | Multimedia | Cheats / Tips | Walkthrough | Other Versions |
